My favorite project at Detail 23 is "The Escape" that is private house near by an ocean. It was designed by Ruby Kinney and designed for family. I really like this design because I really like spaces with wide, open windows.  When I become old, one of my dreams is to buy a villa like this and live gracefully.  This building is equipped with solar panels, offering two main benefits. Firstly, it harnesses renewable energy, allowing for a reduction in reliance on non-renewable sources. Secondly, it contributes to the reduction of harmful emissions, thereby minimizing the environmental impact compared to conventional energy generation methods.

I like the 'Five Mile Village' project the most at this art exhibition. This project was designed by 'Katelyn Eaton.' The complex of buildings is created for a community where people share living spaces. I was drawn to this village because it offers a modern living experience while simultaneously enjoying the natural landscapes of Queenstown. Made primarily using wood, this village seamlessly blends into the mountainous terrain surrounding Queenstown, providing a sustainable shared living community that accommodates all types of residences. It will offer people a better way of living.

My favourite one is Summit Spas, which is created by Omea Hall. As you can see in the title, this construction has spas. It  is located deep in the mountain. In winter, mountain is covered with ice, and it would be so cold. The construction is helpful for the people who visit or explore mountain at the moment, because they can rest while keeping their body warm.  I like spa, so I want to climb the mountain to visit this construction.

My favorite project is ”Te Kainga Reserve”, designed by Rhondda Bowen. Te Kainga Reserve is a reclaimed space that invites community through the creation of an uplifting public domain. Located in the hilly Dunedin suburb of Corstorphine, it provides an opportunity to create a vibrant space for local residents. I like this design because it is surrounded by nature, with an elementary school and library, so children will be able to grow up in a relaxed environment.

I choose the Summit Spas which is designed for the people who stay in queens town's mountain. It was created by Omea Hall, and he wanted people who live in busy city to have relaxing time, so this hause has shower, a steam both, and a sauna. The reason why I like it is that I really miss Japanese spas celled onnsenn. I hevan't soaked in the bathhub, so it brought me back some memories. Also, I like the shape of it. It is trapezoid, so It seems much bigger than rectangle.

My favorite project is "Community spaces" from the intermission. It was designed by Eden Rose-Yon. Also, it was designed as places where a cureted series of spaces awaits, each meticulously crafted to engage various facts of the human experience.    I was really interested in this building because the atmosphere of it was really beautiful and attractive. According to picture, we can feel nature such as huge green, wood, stones, and sunlight. These things must be making us calm and relaxing. That's why I was fascinated by it.

The favourite project : The Escape - Quaran time Point, Portobello  Designed by : Ruby Kinney  Designed for :The Escape offres a completely off grid alternative to everyday life.  Attracted point : This building allows for extraditionary views and sun. Also, the main material is wood and looks fresh, so I like it.  How to enhance the environment around this building :   Most part of Portobello is pretty rural and so silent, but if there are some good buildings such The Escape, a lot of people will decide to live in here, and Portobello becomes more popular and arban.

My favorite project was Summit Spas at Detail ’23. The designer is Omea Hall. It was designed for enjoying spas. We can enjoy many kinds of spas. For example, Cold Plunge Pool, Shower Station & Snow Fountain, Horizontal Aromatherapy Showers and so on. Also, we can enjoy seeing extraordinary views and landscapes every seasons. I attracted to the sophisticated shape and the views. I think it match to build this building in huge mature. In addition, I think it can use spring water and solar and wind power to run the spas. I strongly want to try the amazing spas!!

My favorite project at Detail 23 was Otepoti Social Nexus - Urban Communal Center. It was designed to provide people connections and public spaces by Gorge Condon. I liked it because there were many amusements for the public, for example, it had a cafe, a bar and a sports gym. This practical building might make people opener and healthier. In addiction, this community center had 7 floors, so it was quite remarkable. People would see it as a new landmark. The new landmark would also affect on the city positively.

I chose "North Beach Village" which is designed by Zoe Earnshaw.     "North Beach Village" is designed to respond to the past events of the Canterbury earthquakes and create a climate responsive development that can withstand coastal conditions in a flood management zone.     I was fascinated by this building, because it is made by the wool, so I can feel the richness of nature and the view from the second floor of the building is look so nice.

I like "Sprouts", which is designed by Samuel Byrne.     "Sprouts" is a community garden project that aims to share knowledge among the community or simply to enjoy the process of maintaining vegetable crop for those who don't have access to suitable growing space at home. It's located within the upper garden at the Dunedin Botanic Garden.      I like it because I like seeing plants in the garden and the building looked cool.

I like the sound of the beauty salon. Especially the sounds of shampooing and shoulder tapping. I always listen to role play ASMR like this on You Tube with earphones or headphones. The sounds are really comfortable and make me feel relaxed. The sound I don't like is the sound of fingernails scratching the blackboard. This sound is really annoying. However, after I entered university, I rarely heard this sound anymore.

A Sounds that Affects Me -- Rio Tanaka

I like listening to ASMR on Youtube or TikTok. It is really relaxing to listen to sounds of chewing  and sounds of clawing at objects. I am not sure why I feel relaxing by listeng to such sounds, but I tend to listen to this before go to bed. Although I feel relaxing listening to sounds of chewing, I dislike the sound of chewing by people who having a meal together. I feel it is disguting and annoying. When I find noisy eater in my friend, I usually want to leep a littele distance. This difference between on the internet and in person. But I just want to keep in mind not to be a noisy eater.

A sound I like is the singing of the birds. It makes me feel relax and nostalgic. Because I would often listen to the sounds when I studied for the entrance exam and I go to Yamanashi Prefecture every summer where I can usually hear these sounds since my childhood.      A sound I dislike is all noises which occur when listening to music, watching movies or TV, reading comics, and so on.

The best sound for me is cracking sound of fire. Because this sound reminds me of the excellent memories that I experienced in every summer vacations. I used to play fireworks with my friends in summer, so when I hear this sound, my mind goes back to the previous time. In addition to this, this sound makes me relax and get rid of stress from me.   In next summer vacation, I want to hear it again with my friends.

Today, I'm going to talk about what kind of sounds that I like and dislike. My favorite sounds is my dad's whistle. I like the way he whistle his favorite song when he driving, because It reminds me of the first time I went in a drive with my dad as a child, his whistling was so loud and I made him stop. However, when I grew up a bit, he told me that he whistle when he's in a good mood, so from then on, I realized that when dad whistles, he must be happy. Incidentally, I really dislike the cracking sound during tooth extraction. The reason is that, since I was a child, I've been hated because it feels like my head might come off when pulling my tooth, so this fear has stayed with me until now. That's why I really hate dentist, but It's unavoidable for me now, because I've been wearing braces.

This week, we were discussing a variety of sounds we like or not. I felt quit surprised because we had difenitely different preferences of sounds. Therefore, I am happy to tell you what sounds I love and avoid. Firstly, I incredibly love the sound of flipping the page. When I was a kid, reading books is favorite things that help kill the time for me. I mean that this sound makes me more comfortable, and I can forcus on sometning importance. Thus, I am usually study while listenning to the sound flipped the page on YouTube. It is called ASMR[ Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response ], then it is also getting more and more popular genre amoung young generation.  Secondly, unfortunately, I am likely to avoid the rustling sound in ear. Many people like this sound, in fact, there are a number of ASMR videos like  an ear cleaning sound. However, I will probably feel that it gives me the creeps when I listend to the sound of rustling in ear. I must think that it is as if bugs were flying in my

Recently, I love sounds of piano. Actually, I made my original playlist of piano songs in Spotify. So, I often listen to this playlist’s songs. For example, there are Summer, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence and Kito Kito. Almost of them are Japanese movie’s song. I also like sounds of tapping triggers. When I was in Japan, I usually listened it(ASMR) before I fell asleep on You Tube lol I recommend you VIVA that is the channel’s name on YouTube. She is Korean and her view of the world is so lovely 😊 Please try it! When you listen to her sounds, you would fall asleep soon. On the other hand, I dislike the sounds of buzz. When I was in my home that I lived myself, a bug was buzzing around my face. So, I couldn’t sleep for about 3 hours until I got rid of it lol

I have a lot of favorite sound, but if I had to pick one, I guess I would choose the sound of fire. I always hear cracking, because it makes me relaxed and bring back my memories. In the beginning of this year, I went to glamping with my friends, and set up a bonfire. It is the best memory of this year, so I love it. On the other hand, I don't like the sound of bike engine, because my house is in front of a highway, and I was suffering from this when I was in Japan. I hope high way will disappear!

A Sound That Affects Me -- Mika

I love background music because it helps calm my mind. I'm particularly fond of Ghibli music. Recently, I've developed a fondness for French music influenced by movies. While I can work in silence, having music playing makes me feel like I'm in a café, elevating my mood and adding a touch of elegance. I often listen to it while doing homework, reading, or cooking. On the other hand, I dislike hearing loud background noises, so I really appreciate noise-canceling mode.

I love the sound that the crunch of walking on a fresh layer of snow. The reason is that it makes me calm, and relaxing. The snow reminds me of memories of my hometown. From childhood until now, I have spent winter with snow because my homecountry is Hokkaido, Japan. Hokkaido is located in the northernmost part of Japan. I love winter's atmosphere such as cold and dry air, calm wind, bright sun with snow, and so on. All of winter things is my favorite. The sound that the crunch of walking on a fresh layer of snow reminds me these winter things I like, so I love this sound!

A Sound That Affects Me -- Kazuki Hashimoto

I really like  the sound of walking on snow which is pilled up. At first, I love the winter the most in four seasons. Also, I rarely saw snow in my hometown which is Fukuoka, in Japan. I don't remember surely, but I could see snow once a year or two years there because the place is relatively warmer than any places of Japan. Thus, I really used to enjoy walking on snow or having a snowball fight in a childhood whenever it snowed. That's why I love the sound.

Finding love Rin Oyama

In my experience, it is severe for us to find the appropriately suitable form of love. I have had a few people who have a important relationship with me, however, we do not always felt comfortable with one another. I prefer supporting a partner to relay on them, but actually they could not accept my preference sometimes. Thus, I believe that if we want to have a good company with a partner we should reduce what we want them. In my case, I clearly think that I should have told them that I just want them by my side. I also should have look at why I like before we got a partner, which means I should not have want them to change themselves like my ideal  parson.

I prefer love to come my way incidentally rather than actively seeking it out. Because of this preference, I tend to look for people in real life rather than online. Of course, finding love is still an important goal in life. However, I believe that instead of solely focusing on finding love, it's more natural to meet that 'special person' while doing the things I need to do and enjoying the things I love.

Finding Love - Mone Muto

Image
I'd like to find the special person in real life, because the people who met in real life already know not only my good habits but also my laxity. I'm not the kind of person who show bad parts of me to people who I just met, so I think searching partner in real life is better than online, but I think I'm happpy without any partner. The most precious parts of my life are always made when I'm with friends!!!!!!!

Finding love--Shanin Hirakawa

The best way to find someone to love is do not put too much pressure on yourself and don't seek romance. In other words, do not be rush about getting a boyfriend quickly. If you work hard towards your dreams or you concentrate on something and do your best, someone will naturally like you. So that I think the couple who are doing well, they can respect each other and I think that's the secret to a long-term relationship by having them like themselves as they are. In short, I think the single person just do not interact with other people in a narrow range, so if you work or study to broad range, you would probably find a good person for sure!

Finding Love - Rio Tanaka

I think that the best way to find love is using apps. I have a reason for this opinion. It is because I met my current boyfriend on twitter. I has a twitter account of my hobby, listening to J-rock. I made many friends on that, and I chatted with them. all of them, my current boyfriend had chemistry with me the best of all my friends.  Since we started dating, we often listen to music together, recommend each other’s favorite songs, and go to our favorite musicians’ concerts. We can enjoy being together because we have the same hobby. That is why I think using apps is the best way to find love.

Finding Love- Mika

What is the best way to find love? The way I envision finding my ideal love is for it to develop from friendships formed at school or through shared activities. I believe this is important because getting to know the person well and confirming their true character before becoming a couple is paramount. Additionally, observing how someone interacts with third parties, such as store clerks, is also noteworthy.   Do you prefer searching for 'that special person' online or in real life? I prefer in real life because it’s a little scared me to meet online. I think there's a possibility of the other person lying when meeting online. I've heard of cases where people I met through online dating apps lied about their appearance or age in person compared to what they presented online. Do you expect love to come your way incidentally as you go about your daily life? Certainly, I believe that being open is important if you want to find love. I think love can be addictiv

Finding love --- Soma Imai

I think the best way of finding love is "searching in real life. There are some reasons to suppose this opinion. First, we know the details of people who meet in real life each other. We do not have to be nervous to IRL people, because we often talked a lot in real and used to be each other. Also, maybe we do not have to worry about running out of talking topics. On the other hand, in case of matching apps, maybe we will talk with people who meet for the first time. Therefore, perhaps we can not spend good time and waste money and time. Second, searching in matching apps, there are risks of meeting to strangers or criminals. For using matching apps, we have to register our faces to recognize each other, but some people use fake images to register it. So strangers and criminals can use the apps same as normal people. Actually, sometimes happen the cruel incident via marching apps. For example, a men brought a women to the hotel and killed her in a room. These are the reasons I thin

What is the best way to find love ?   I think spending time to work hard or study hard, so living each day to the fullest, the best person for me would be coming. Timing is one of the important things to find love. Loving yourself is also the important thing. Because, I believe if you don’t love yourself, you cannot love someone else. To sum up, my answers are living each day to the fullest and loving myself. Do you prefer s earching for 'that special person' online or in real life?      I prefer searching for the person in real life. Because, I don’t usually use SNS to find new friends or love.  I have never tried searching the person online. However, this way might match me to find love. Do you expect love to come your way incidentally as you go about your daily life?  Yes, I do. I think love will come to our daily life without doing special.   I feel finding love is plus something in my life. So, I don’t focus on it to spend my time. I believe there is my d

Finding Love -- Yutsuki Minoura

I think the best way to find love depends on the person. I just hope that love comes to me by accident in my dairy life. So I don't use matching apps for the purpose. However, I cannot talk to a stranger on the street, even by accident. Because I am super shy!!😿 I think I will never fall in love at first sight. Ideally, I would like to fall in love with someone by naturally getting to know them from a friend. I think it's not good to make finding love the main focus of my life!! I am easily dependent on love, so I try to put importance on my own time.

Finding Love -- Hana Suzuki

Image
For me, the best way to find "special person" is giving up on love. Giving up mean spending good time everyday for yourself. Many people can't find special person during making effort to find out good person. I don't know why, but many of my friend could only one person for them when they gave up on love. ALso, my respected teacher said to me that if you give up on love and spend happy daily life, the special person will appear out of the blue! I believe this thinking, so I think the best way to find "special person" is giving up on love.    However, some people can find someone nice online. That's why I don't think only giving up on love is the best way.

What, in your opinion, is the best way to find love? Do you prefer searching for 'that special persion' online or in real life? Or perhaps rather than looking for love, do you expect love to come your way incidentally as you go about your daily life? Or then again, maybe finding love isn't such a priority for you. Ka pai -- Kazuki Hashimoto

Image
I chose this word "Ka pai". Ka pai" is a Maori expression meaning "good," "wonderful," or "going well. It is a common expression in Maori culture in New Zealand and is used in situations where something or someone is successful or doing well. It is commonly used to praise someone for their achievements or efforts. It is often used in a positive way in everyday conversation and feedback. I like this word so much that I put a sticker with kapai written on it.

Tino pai - Moses Keon Oh Lee

Image
"Tino pai" is a common Maori phrase that means "very good" or "excellent" in English. It is often used to express approval or satisfaction with something. When you hear "Tino pai," it's a positive and enthusiastic response to something you've done or to show appreciation for a job well done. So, if someone tells you "Tino pai," you can feel proud of your accomplishment!

Rangi--- Haruka

Image
The word means “the sky”. It is originated from the god of the sky: Ranginui. In Maori and other Polynesian mythology Ranginui is a husband of the earth goddess Papatuanuku. They were locked in a crushing embrace but were eventually separated by their children, the other gods. They always tightly sticked each other, so it was said that the world didn’t have any light at that time. But they were separated by their child: Tane-Mafuta. That’s why it is told that the sky is far away from the land now. Thanks to light, plants, animals and everything ended up to grow. Nowadays, this word “Rangi” is popular for children’s names in New Zealand. It is my host mother's house:)

Kapai-- Shanin Hirakawa

Image
Kapai have several meanings like "Good!", "excellent", "Well done!" or "okay". You can use these expression for conversation to convey positivity and approval. For instance, when appreciating someone's cooking, you could say, " Kai kapai" to compliment the food. By adding "kai" at the top word of "kapai", it means "good food" or "tasty food". In an overall context, it's a compliment to the person who prepared the meal. Also, in other terms, you can use "kapai" if someone does a good job like passing the examination, so you might say "kapai" to praise them.

Tena koe/ korua /koutou – Mika

Image
In Maori culture, formal greetings like " Tēnā Koe " (to one person), " Tēnā Kōrua " (to two people), and " Tēnā Koutou " (to three or more people) are used instead of the casual "Kia ora." When writing, use "Tēnā Koe/Kōrua/Koutou" for formality and "Kia Ora" for informality. To end a message, use "He Mihi" (to one person) or "Ngā mihi" (to multiple people) as a sign of respect. I think this greeting is different from Japan. In Japan, greetings do not change based on the number of people you are addressing. Anyway, if you have the opportunity, please try to use it correctly.

mōrena -- Hana Suzuki

Image
Morena is a Maori word that people use in the morning. In English, it means "Good Morning!" Also, Morena is a meaning as morning.    I chose this word because this word is one of my favorite Maori one. The teacher that taught me in my previous class said us "Morena!" in the morning. When I heard it, I thought this word is really beautiful!

Kei te pai — Soma Imai

Image
The word I chose is “kei te pai”. The reason I chose is Mrs Wendy taught this word every morning in last semester. It means I’m in a condition and use it when someone tell you “how are you?”. Pai means good, so if you want to explain other conditions , you can put another word instead of pai. For example, Kei te ngenge means I am exhausted, Kei te haikai means I am hungry. Thank you for reading!! :)

Kia kaha -- Yutsuki Minoura

Image
Kia kaha is a Māori phrase used by the people of New Zealand as an affirmation, meaning stay strong . The phrase has significant meaning for Māori. When the 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit the Christchurch on 22 February 2011, Kia kaha became the iconic phrase used by family and friends supporting the city in their time of need.     I used this phrase in a previous class with classmates who were going back to Japan first. I am interested in this word because I like this word meaning to be brave!!🔥🔥

Taihoa--- Mone Muto

Image
I chose taihoa which means please wait a while or delay. The reason why I chose this word is that I thought I have used this word more often than other words on the list.  I’ve never met this word in daily life, but you would see it when you are in a train station. Although Dunedin doesn’t have a train, there is a train station here, so please go there and check if there is an announcement of delay or not. In addition to that, we can use it to ask our friends to give us a moment. For example, please taihoa, I’ll get there in 10 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Taonga--Rin Oyama

Image
In my essay, I will explain what Taonga means and share an example sentence in which Tanga is used. After that, I also show a reason I find it interesting. Taonga means  property, goods, possession, effects, object. So, people will say that 'Well done. You discussed how important the conservation of the body of water is in front of audience. I'm with you, I'm sure that it is vital for us to consider of our Taonga.' I like this word because the articul say that it is difficult to translate directly in English, so people should change the meanning of Taonga through contexts. This feature is similar to Japanese words. Both of them is in the high contexts word, so Japanese people can become more familiar with Maori Language, I bet. That is why I am interested in Taonga. Thank you for reading!!

Haka--Rio Tanaka

Have you heard of Haka?  Haka is famous especially for the performance during rugby game. Actually, I had known about Haka before I came to New Zealand.  Haka is so powerful, so I think it is a good way to scare the opponent. However, meanig of haka is not only for scare the opponent. The maori legend describing the origin of the haka paints it as a celeblations of life.

Haka--Keita Adachi

Image
Haka are ceremonial dances in Māori culture. They are performed by a group. Their purposes are to welcome guests, acknowledge great achievements, and so on. New Zealand's national sports teams perform them before international matches to challenge opponents. For example, All Blacks, New Zealand's men's national rugby team began to perform Haka in 1905. Now, All Blacks performs two types of Haka named Ka Mate and Kapa O Pango. And Black Ferns, New Zealand's women's national rugby team performs Haka named Ko Uhia Mai.

Maori Loan Words in New Zealand English

Image
Let's write about words that New Zealand English has borrowed from Maori. Choose a word or phrase from the list of English words of Maori origin on Wikipedia. Explain what the word or phrase means, share an example sentence in which the word or phrase is used (you can find or create one), and say why you find it interesting. Title your post 'The Word -- Your Name' e.g. 'Kia Kaha -- Kenta Yamaguchi', and add a relevant image to your post.

Finding Your Passion & Making it Your Job — Rio Tanaka

I would like to answer question from emma.     What skills do you want to be using at work? I am good at cooperate with people, and I am learning communication skills in my home university. So, I want to use skills that bring people together.    What do you want to get out of work?  I want to be able to solve problems quickly by dealing with many problems.   What kind of workplace would you prefer?  I prefer the workplace which has variety of equipment like many kinds of chairs desks, and refreshments. It is because I want to work at relaxing place. If the workplace is uncomfortable, I would be choke and could not concentrate on my tasks.    Is this something you would like to try? If so, how could you make it happen? Yes. Actually, I have experienced like her by doing part-time day job. It helps me to learn that there are many ways to work.    Can you see yourself having such a career?  Yes. I think it’s more flexible if I have many options what to do as work. Also, it is so boring
